I need to know what material the rocker panel trim pieces were made from, fiberglass or metal in 68-69 vettes. How were these held on. I have a chance to buy a set and do not know if they are correct. They are metal and painted black with holes across them for screws to go through to attach them. Would this be correct for a 68-69? Thank you

The 68-69 rocker panels were a 2 piece arrangement. The upper, thin strip is aluminum. It is clear anodized on the upper side and painted semi-flat black on the lower side.
The other wider piece is fiberglass plastic laminate. It is painted semi-flat black.
The wider piece attaches to the INNER rocker panels via panel nuts which are attached to the INNER rocker panel. Phillips head machine screws then go through holes in the plastic molding and into the panel nuts. These screw are often VERY difficult to remove and usually break in the removal process.
The upper aluminum molding strip then attaches to the fiberglass strip via sheet metal screws.In Appreciation of John Hinckley -

The ones I am looking at the pieces are together (thin strip and wider strip) and are both metal. Why would the wider piece on these be metal? As Mark mentioned the moldings for 70-77 were a 1 piece aluminum molding. On these, I believe that the very top edge was painted black and the remainder of the molding was clear anodized aluminum. These moldings were not originally used on a 1968-1969, though.
I would not rule out the possibility that the later moldings, painted black, might have been used on VERY late 1969's. I seriously doubt it, but it's not beyond the realm of possibility. I can tell you, for sure, that a mid-Septemeber built 1969 convertible that I am the original owner of has the 2 piece, aluminum top and fiberglass rear moldings.In Appreciation of John HinckleyComment
