    C1 Emergency Brake flasher question

This is getting interesting. My original emergency brake (parking brake) light gave way to old age this last week and I have been searching for a replacement. All of the replacements, including two NOS units that I have seen have a shorter wire that runs from the socket to the flasher unit than mine. Were there differences in the 53-55 and the 56-57 units? There must be. My wires are original and measure about 28"-30". The units I am looking at the one wire runs approximately 28 to 30"and that's ok, but the one that plugs into the flasher unit is about 6-7' long and will not reach all the way down to the brake unit where the flasher unit snaps into place. It's a mystery waiting to be solved. Help please. Thanks.

You have the one for a car 55-57 if you have that NOS units lathine the wires
The 53 to 57 are all the same units

Roy, I do have an NOS unit. So you are saying that I have a passenger car unit and not a Corvette unit and that I need to splice in extra wire to make it long enough? I still might be able to salvage my old one, a small corner of the ceramic insulator has broken off. Would this create a safety issue? It exposes about 1/4 of one of the pins. Thanks!

I'm having trouble with what your asking ( part) we're talking 56 ?? The light having two wires is what I said about the wires car and Corvette.
Brake switch is not a ceramic unit for 56 so your talking the flasher black ceramic has a piece broken off ?? If so , you can still use it if it don't get grounded . I'm I understanding you right??

Sorry Roy, I think we are both having a hard time understanding. It is a '56 Corvette. The part that I am talking about is the jewel, bezel, socket, spring and two wires that are mounted in the dash. One wire connects to the fuse block and the other with a very distinct "male" connector that plugs into the elongated flasher unit that is mounted on the emergency brake assembly. In your previous email you said that I had a 55-57 "car" NOS unit of which I assumed that you meant that it was not a corvette unit but rather a passenger car unit. This might explain the "too short" wire with the "male" connector that doesn't reach the flasher unit mounted to the emergency brake assembly in my corvette. Is this what you meant?

Secondly, my original jewel..etc. has original wires that were long enough to get to the flasher unit on the emergency brake assembly but they broke off. On the rear of the socket there is a ceramic insulator that these two wires feed through. When looking at this insulator at the rear of the socket it protrudes out about 1/4 inch. One small corner of this insulator has broken off. If I am able to solder new wires onto this socket, will this chipped insulator become an issue? Thanks for hanging in there with me on this.

Yes the shorter wires are from a car, about the ceramic insulator it would be OK as long as the two wires don't touch each other, remember one wire is hot and other ground . But you said you have a NOS car one , then just make it work. To repair your's go find the wire ends at a parts house that go to the fuse box and flasher . The wire ends in the ceramic unit will come out and springs so that you can easily solder a new wire on to those posts.Best ROY
