    LS7 Crate engine

Well, I was told to come here and ask-----and it would be an easy, and "in a heartbeat" answer.

Regarding LS7 Crate engines, were there ever LS7's with aluminum heads or were/are they cast iron OC's like the many, many that were bought around here. Even know where a few still exist in the crate, as there likely is around the country. None of these here had manifolds, just a block assembly with heads and typical HP stuff internally---covers down.

I should have brought a link with me to some Corvette site that stated something like: Though some thought they did, no Fire breathing 465 hp(?) aluminum headed LS7 was ever installed in a Corvette. Found the link, if it will work----below.

    Thanks

    Re: LS7 Crate engine Yea

Good question, I think your going to get opinions; not a yes or no 100%. Back then if you had the know and the doe you could get what ever you wanted. ex 68 Roadrunner with a 440, 65 GTO with 421 (dealer installed brandnew) so a 454 with 074 heads I dont see a problem. Lots of stuff got out the door, my two cents Phil 8063

      Steve-----

No documented 1970 Corvette with LS-7 has ever been found. I doubt that one ever will be. The LS-7 engine scheduled for Corvettes was, basically, a 454 version of the L-88 and it would have been equipped with aluminum heads.

Once-upon-a-time GM did offer a SERVICE (i.e. crate) LS-7 engine. This engine was available under GM #3965774. It was very similar to the engine scheduled for use in 1970 but cancelled for PRODUCTION. However, it was supplied with cast iron heads and it was not supplied with intake manifold or water pump. It included cam GM #3959180 which was also the 1969 ZL-1 cam.

The GM #3965774 engine assembly was discontinued from SERVICE in June, 1992.

Thanks, I should also have put the link to the engine in question which is exactly like the dozens that were used/sold here, and as Joe describes.

And........I have no idea as to the reason why the rocker arms were removed unless for the picture, those we had came with H rocker arms.
