C2 Engine Pad, Does it look correcet?

I finally got around to cleanining the oil and grime from the engine stamp pad on my 66 SB coupe. I did this while replacing the fuel pump with help hints from Joe Lucia and other great members. By the way heavy grease or the bolt trick work well to hold the fuel pump rod in place during reassembly. I took some pictures of the process for those who have not done it before. I approached the job cautiously as a first timer and the help here was right on the money. Is the I in place of the number one on my pad typical of factory stampings? Would the pad pass judging?
    Thanks,
    Frank

To me it does. I'm no expert, but I've researched this on my 67.

    Cheers,

    Steve

          Frank,
I have the I v 1 on my pad also, 1964. The factory did mix up the I and 1. My numbers were confirmed (work may not be right) back in 1984, before most people got creative, for Adams Book.

Just attended a Tag & Engine Number seminar presented by A Grenning, see his book on the lit section of the site.

One thing that was obvious after the seminar - restamps look original while original's look false!

If the number is important then I would contact Mr Grenning and ask how it can be confirmed as an original. If you are just concerned that it looks original then YES it does.

            Alan--
I want to gently take issue with your 1984 date as before people started getting creative. I've been active in the hobby since 1974, and I know that there were restamps taking place already in the late 70's, if not before. It is not a new phenomenon, or anywhere close--it's a 30-year-old practice that is more sophisticated now, but not new by any means. In 1981, when I found the original block to my 1962 Gulf Oil racer, I made sure that it was authenticated by an independent source, because there was plenty of restamping going on then. FWIW
