    40 Years Ago . . .

This is kind of morbid but . . .

On 12 April 1966, 25-year-old Jan Berry crashed his Corvette Stingray into the back of a parked truck on a side street in Beverly Hills.

Jan Berry was initially thought to be dead. His body was cut out of his car and rushed to the nearby UCLA Medical Center, where he spent several weeks in a coma with severe injuries to the head and brain. The career of Jan & Dean was effectively over.

Jan came back from this, though. I've been to MANY Jan & Dean performances after his rehabilitation went far enough to allow it and prior to his passing awhile back. I can tell you that I enjoyed every one of them immensely.

I saw them in lake tahoe about 25 years ago and Jan was out of it then. I had always wanted to see Jan & Dean, which was nice and sad at the same time. Jan got a woman to go on stage, then dissappear behind the curtan. I still have an album with the photos and lists of all of there vettes.
