motor detail help??

I have completely stripped the motor compartment of the radiator, shroud, hose's, heater hose's, distributor cap and wire's, alternator and bracket, A/C and bracket's, most hose's ,ect. How is the best way to clean up fender well area's, radiator area, ect especially the black paint ect. It looks like it has been detailed with spray paint a long time ago. I thought of a cheap lacquer thinner on a rag and start there but I can use any and all help from start to finish. Thanks

lacquer thinner and a 3-M pads will do the job. mike
