70 350HP Q-jet R&R

Picked up a correct Q-jet for my 70 L-46 at a very good price. I plan on using it as a backup to my original and want to refurbish it. My original was done by Jerry Lucks, and as one would expect, it was perfect.

Besides a simple rebuild, this one needs a heili coil for the fuel inlet, and the airhorn/ main body unwarped. I found this site for the unwarping:

Also finding a local shop to just put a heli coil in is not easy. If I could find the coil, I'd do it myself. Local shops won't do the insert unless they do their standard 250.00 rebuild with it.

$250 for a local rebuild? Heck, that's close to what Jerry gets for a COMPLETE restoration including missing/damaged pieces, fresh plating, de-warp and final hot engine test screening!

Thanks for the number Jack. I know his backlog this time of year. I'm in no hurry, since this is a spare. (that mentallity helps with a Lucks rebuid) I'm going to give him a call.

Dennis I have my original 70 350/300 quadrajet that I installed a extension into the the fuel inlet in the early 70's because of damage to the original fuel inlet. Interested in what you find out about have a heli coil installed.

I have a heli coil insert in my original Q-jet. Dam if I can remember who did it for me. I know it was done before I sent the carb to Jerry Lucks. What exactly is an extension?
