    65 Brake Caliper Finish-Machined Surface

    Greetings Everyone,

I'm putting the calipers back on my 65 and keep reading about the "machine surfaces" of the disk calipers being natural. I'm assuming the machined surfaces on the calipers are the areas under the bleeder screws and the surfaces where the calipers bolt to the hub assembly. I've seen several pictures in different books with differing degrees of painted area. Am I correct in the above areas or am I missing something. Sorry for such a "remedial" question but I just cannot seem to find the proper answer to this.
A big thank you in advance to everyone who responds!

    John,
Picture the two halves of the castings before any machining is done. They are painted at this point. Then machine of all critical features mating surfaces, bosses & holes for bolts, bleeder screw bosses and threads, the faces that form the mounting pads to the caliper mounts, and the ends where the brake pads sit against the casting are machined and or milled. All these "important" features are unpainted machined surfaces. You can tell which ones they are cause they are not rough as in the cast faces. Some times circular machine marks are apparent after a light bead blasting.
