I wanted to call sermersheims for technical questions before purchase on a C1 front clip. Or should I be using Corvette image. Any comments from someone who has installed a C1 clip? Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: Sermersheims Phone number or Comments on C1 cl
Bill, I know people that have used both with good results. Both companies build their panels using a press molded process but from what I understand, not at same high pressures as originals. I have heard Corvette Image panels initially had some problems with delamination, but since solved. I don't know of this first hand and I am sure the owner could address this for you and explain. I believe Paragon Reproductions used Corvette Images complete front end clip on their recent 59 big brake restoration. I saw the clip prior to installation and after and it looked great. The resto was followed by Corvette Enthusiast and the car later sold at Barrett Jackson this Jan '06. Here's the link and you can see pics of the body work in progress. I watched this car come together and it was a first rate job.

Rich Lagasse built a world class 62 restification using a Paul Newman C1-C4 frame conversion. He replaced one side with a Sermershiem panel and was happy with the quality and fit. Here's a link to body work in progress. http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c5/richs7/index6.shtml

It's been 44 years after the last C1 was made. Isn't it great to have choices available in top quality body panels made available by the aftermarket?- Top

Sermersheim's Front Clips...
Corvette Image front ends are OK if you want to pay $400 more for the same quality product as a Sermersheim's front end. They both are nice.- Top

Re: Sermersheim's Front Clips...
Recently installed '63 front clip from Sermersheim's. Everyone who saw it said it was the best they had seen. Went on without a hitch. People at Sermersheim's very knowledgable and helpful. Will buy from them again. Top notch.- Top

C1 Front Clip Installed...
I installed this one piece front end on my basket case '57. The clip went all the way back, to the front of the dash and also back to the front of the doors. This picture was taken 16 years ago. The hand laid fiberglass was from Legendary Corvette, which I think is out of business. I didn't have the $$$ at the time for a jig assembled, press molded front end and it was just a driver anyway, but the installation principle is the same.
Pretty straight forward installation. I cut off the old front end with a jigsaw, avoiding all the bulkheads and attaching points, etc. I ground those down with a disc sander, taking off the old glass and bonding adhesive only, which is a slightly different color than the fiberglass attaching points. The new clip should lay on the car without binding anywhere. Then with a helper, we mixed up two batches of bonding adhesive, early in the morning, when the temperature was about 50 degrees.
Added the hardener and mixed up the adhesive very quickly with rubber spatulas and we each spread it out on both sides and then laid the clip on straight and clamped the edges down with C-clamps, vise grips, barbell plates etc, for about 4 hours. The reinstalled the original hood, which was a PIA to get straight. Just make sure you have all the bases covered before you bond it on. PT

Bill , call Wayne Womble in NC ... he's the best . Wayne uses CI parts and feels they are good. You can get his number from Jerry at CI. The only thing wrong with Wayne is that he likes old old Cadillacs.- Top
