I have a 1971 LT1 with TI. When the car totally warms up (20-30 minutes ) It starts to idle low and stalls, after it does this two or three times it will not start again unless I wait 30 or 40 minutes. It will start instantly if I put a spare coil ( which I have learned to carry with me ) in it. In about another 15 minutes the problem will happen again. Any ideas? The coil is a GM 12337166 which they say is OK since you cant get the 1115207 anymore. Craig

Craig-----
My guess would be that you have a problem with the TI amplifier. If you have the original electronics package in the amp, they are prone to failure and exhsibit all sorts of "failure modes".
The best source of advice on this would be Dave Fiedler at TI Specialties. You can "dial them up" on the web at www.tispecialty.com. That will get you their phone number and you can then call and talk to Dave.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1971 transistor ignition problems
Craig,
I had a similiar problem with my 71 LT-1 but mine chose to quit all together. After some rest it started right up and ran perfectly again for a while. In my case it was the pole piece and Dave Fiedler diagnosed it over the phone. I sent the distributor to him and had him got through it entirely. His work and service are second to none. My suggestion is to get a real Delco #272 coil to make your car runs perfectly. Look hard and you will find one.- Top
