    66 Clock Face Bezel

Is there a secret to get the clock face bezel to stay put? Mine wants to pop off when I put the least little pressure on it.

Spring type clips retain face bezel behind the dash.

      Clarification

The clock face bezel that holds the lens in place will stay on the clock housing.

I think you might be talking about the outer bezel coming off the clock. I think they are retained to the clock body by a couple of small rivits. When you get the clock rebuilt they replace the rivits with a couple of small screws. You could install the screws to hold the face on.

-----Actually, I believe that the outer ring has a number of studs protruding off of it. These studs are peened over when the clock is assembled. To take the clock totally apart in the first place you have to grind down the studs a bit. Reassembly is done differently by different people. I seem to remember the use of glue. Im not looking at a clock right now and am going by memory so I hope the above is correct.........Bill S

            Mark,

If the lens is loose, it's the rivets between the bezel and the front part of the housting. In order to change the lens these rivets (a part of the bezel) have to be broken loose from front part of the housing. To reinstall they have to be peened back over, threaded for screws, or glued in place. I used a new bezel so I was able to just peen the rivets.

If the glass is tight, then it's the crimping between the front part of the case and the rear part of the case.

If you pull the clock, you'll see the problem right away. The spring clips which mount the clock tend to pull the clock apart.

              Thank You

I took the clock apart last year to install a quartz chip and put it on the shelf knowing I needed to address the bezel problem then. But since the dash has been out of the car for two years, the clock problem quickly became a lower priority. Saturday, I put the dash back in the car. Now the clock is back on the bench. I think Bill's solution to glue the bezel is the answer.

Thanks to all for your interest.

                Mark,

You better use some good glue, over the rivets that hold the bezel to the housing. If you look at the mechanics of the mounting, the spring clips tend to pull the the clock apart.
