Does anyone know 1)if the distributor shaft for a 63 340hp was the same for all models that year, and 2) how/if I could determine if the one in my distributor is correct. Thanks

Re: '63 SHP distributor shaft
All except FI used the same 1111024 distributor, but the OE 201 vacuum can is not at all suited to the Duntov cam. Since '63 FI had ported vacuum advance (for some incomprehensible reason) it didn't much care what vacuum can was used. FI shared the same OE vacuum can and centrifugal curve.
Is there any ID data stamped on the cam at the top of the shaft?

Re: '63 SHP distributor shaft
Jim------
The distributor shaft assembly for all 1963 Corvette applications except FI (FI uses a completely different shaft assembly as a result of FI drive incorporation) was GM #1961402. This assembly includes the shaft + auto cam unit brazed to the top. The auto cam is one of the 3 functional components in determing the mechanical advance characteristics of a distributor.
Often times, the auto cams are stamped with an ID number. However, I don';t know what the number is for the above-referenced shaft assembly. Dave Fiedler of TI Specialties might be able to help, though. You can e-mail him through his web-site of www.tispecialties.comIn Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: '63 SHP distributor shaft
Jim,
I have a 63 300 HP car and I verified the parts in my distributor when apart for cleaning and lube. Auto cam is stamped #54, weights stamped #37, springs are 3/4" long, wt/cam stamped 724 CCW, vacuum can #201. I believe the other parts are the same for all other distributors.- Top
