Clutch Inspection Cover Orange Painting Sequence?

    Hi,

Just curious as to the painting sequence of the clutch inspection cover and the rectangular vertical plate just above it, as well. Were these items on during ebgine paint? If so, it seems that most of the bellhousing would have had to have been painted to get these items painted. If they were painted before installation, then the fasteners should be unpainted.

    Which is it?

    Thanks,

    Bob

I don't recall a "rectangular plate" on the rear of a chevy engine. Is the "inspection cover" the sheet metal plate that covers the lower part of the fprward side of the flywheel? What year car do you have???

My car is a 1960. Yes, the plate you describe sounds like the plate I am talking about. It is next to and above the clutch inspection cover. I didn't know what it was called. That and the clutch inspection cover are what I am asking about. I would think that these items were painted orange before installation and thus the fasteners are not painted?? Thanks, Bob

Bob, I am not familiar with a 60 engine. However on a 63 thru 69 (and probably much longer as the engine color changed) the engine was painted after it was assembled so the flywheel cover plate was painted orange as were partial to total areas on the bell housing. The starter and some brackets were installed after orange paint and thus were typically black.

I see no reason why a 60 wouldn't have a similiar paint job.......
