Is this correct C2 Water pump GM# 3762608

I've searched the archives and couldn't find anything. I have a waterpump and want to know if this is a correct C2 327 water pump. It is GM part# 3762608 with a date code of F1964.

    Thanks.

I think you'll find that the number is actually 3782608. Casting numbers are often difficult to discern. The GM CASTING #3782608 waterpump was used for all C2 Corvettes with small block AND cast iron intake manifold. It was not used for ANY C2 Corvettes with small block and aluminum manifold, though. This means that the '608' was used for all 250 and 300 hp engines but for no 340, 350, 360, 365, or 375 hp engines.

      Robert -

If the casting date is F 19 64, that pump was cast at Tonawanda, and those pumps weren't used on Corvettes. However, the date can't be seen with the pulley installed (at least on a Saginaw-cast pump) and isn't judged.

Yes, I missed that. Even though the dates might not be visible, many Tonawanda-cast '608' pumps have a different configuration than Saginaw-cast. They have 2 reinforcing ribs on the driver's side of the pump body. While the dates may not be easily discerned, these ribs are.

Here is a rather poor photo but I think it will show the Tonawanda small block pump configuration I was speaking of. Saginaw cast pumps, which were used for all Corvette small blocks, did not have these ribs; the casting was "smooth" in this area. Functionally, the Tonawanda-cast pumps are stronger and, consequently, better. They're just not correct for Corvettes. You'll need to scroll down a bit on the "white" to see the photo.

This water pump is smooth - it does not have the ridges like in the photo. I'll try to get a picture.

                Thanks for all the info!

I have a '64 roadster w/ the 327/300 engine..... The water pump is original with the part #GM 9 3782608 and the casting date of C184 (March 18, '64). The engine was assembled on May 11, '64. I'd say you have an original SB water pump....
