    58 FI fuel in crankcase

My 58 Fuel injected (290 HP) blew some oil through the breather during some short drives working on brakes. I checked oil level and it was very high. When I drained the oil, it appeared to be mixed with gas about half and half. What are the possible (probable) causes of this. I am not quite sure where to start looking. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

The first place I'd look is the fuel pump. A dead giveaway would be fuel or oil spirting out the vent on top of the pump. I've not seen one pump fuel in the crancase without it showing on the outside but I suppose it could happen.

I agree with Mike and Roy. I'd say that the fuel pump has about a 90% chance of being the source of the problem.

          Agree!

As others have said, the fuel pump is your primary suspect. But, also understand, you're literally playing with FIRE until you fix the problem! Just the wrong blow by into the crank case and the gas present there could ignite. Can you say, KABOOM???

            Re: Agree!

I remoived the fuel pump and disassembled it and could find no obvious problem. I have ordered a replacement just in case this is the problem. Id there anynthing in the fuel injection system that could leak back into the crankcase? This appears to be a fairly major leak since the car was run very little (couple of warm ups this winter) and I drained 10-12 quarts. This makes me think that the fuel pump might not be the problem since the bottom rubber that separates the fuel from the oil seemed good.

I noticed you were working on the brakes.

Did you leave the back end of the car jacked up higher than the front for an extended period?

Re: I noticed you were working on the brakes.

No, never did jack it up. I was just adjusting the front left brake which was too tight and grabbing. I did remove the FI usit and found nothing amiss. Alos, I did not see any way fuel could enter the crankcase from there anyway unless I am missing something.
