    engine dies occasionally

I have a 66 427/425 which I only occasionally drive. Last fall, 80 degree day, driving car, went about 5 miles, 55-60 mph, car started running rough like running out of gas. Died several times restarted and ran a few minutes each time until would not start and run. With air cleaner off could see fuel from accelerator pump when pumping carb. When starting car it would burn off gas that was pumped into carb with accelerator pump. If choke was held closed engine would run, but when it died there was no gas at accelerator pump either. Thought it might be vapor lock and let car cool a couple of hours. Tried starting it wouldn't run but after a few tries fired up and ran and drive fine. Ran fine the next several outings until today. Same symptoms, mid 70's temp. Engine compartment didn't seem very hot. Took loose fuel line to carb to see if fuel pump was working. It was working, didn't seem like a lot of presure, what does it call for about 5 -7 lbs??? Hooked fuel line back up, tried car and it started right up and is running fine. Any ideas???
    Sorry for long description. Thanks

Check the fuel filters first. My 56 would act like that. It turned out to be the filter on the end of the sending unit in the tank. Rob

had same thing going on on my 65 SB, died like fuel starvation (not all at once but a sputtering death) a few times in the middle of a warm drive, turned out to be the coil was failing, but only at temp, so it would magically start up again once delivered back to mi casa on a roll-back, etc. (after it had cooled down, I figured out later). If you have a spare [known to be good] coil or can swing a no frills plain jane Delco coil, keep it handy along with some basic tools, if the car does it again, pop the hood and swap in the spare coil and see if that cures it.

next time it happens, get out and jiggle the ingition harness plug where it plugs into the back side of the fuse panel under the drivers side female hood latch. if that remedies the problem, clean and lubricate the plug's metal contacts(use delco silicone di-electric paste). mike

Car can't be fixed don't drive it again. Luckly I'll take it off your hands because it needs work don't plane on getting top dollar.

Hey Kevin, I know you have no space, you can keep it at my house right beside the tanker.
