    ebay scam????

I recently got a letter through ebay from someone saying they didn't receive their item and they were going to report me unless I contacted them. Looked official and it directed me to a questionable ebay site to log on my ebay password, etc. At the same time my anti-virus soft ware kicked in and stated I was under attack. It deleted the file and the supposed ebay sign-on page. Weird?? I checked all my transactions and I have never had a business dealing with this person before. Looks like it is a scam of some sort. Be careful. It this happens to you, proceed with caution. My computer seems to be ok. The supposed person that sent the ebay message was "sydatkinson."

    Regards, Terry

    Terry,

It's a phishing scam. they are trying to get your personal information including your ebay password, so they can hijack your account. I've received the same email several times.

I think that was the best one ever. It opened an Ebay page that I think seemed very real. Somehow, they are embedded in the ebay mail that seems very real. The letter was supposedly from Brittney Everding. The my Norton's system identified it as "J S TrojanBlinder." Some people are so F--ked UP! Thanks, Terry

I thought about that but my Norton killed it and I permanently deleted it. I have a nice new computer and the last thing I want is a virus running around in it. I have sent them stuff in the past. If I get it again, I will shoot it over to them. Thanks, Terry

the savier spoofs evaporate into a few choice words when you try to forward them to security, they are actually pictures of text and such rather than actual text, You're best to always check the address line of a page where you are enterring your id and password into, as these spoofs are getting better and better (I am certainly not getting more and more trusting) . . . .

This one came as an actual ebay message that you get when someone tries to contact you through ebay. Norton anti virus activated on it as soon as I opened the letter. But, I could still read the letter and the letter redirected me to another location that asked for sign on information. But, if it was a real message it should have showed up on my My Ebay message board and it didn't. I also did not recognize the name of the person supposedly trying to contact me. I checked and nobody by that name ever purchased anything from me. Pretty sneeky. Thanks, Terry

                  Terry,

As Harold said E-Bay or Pay-Pal will never ask for your password in an email. The link they had you click on looked like the E-Bay link but it was one to a page the scammers use to get info. They have it so anymore it looks very official. This happens too often and while E-Bay is aware of it as soon as they hunt down one scammer another half dozen have popped up. To ever answer an E-Bay email always do so by going into your own E-Bay account, don't click on the e-mail link. Good luck

                  Henry
PS I was told once to never click on a link through any email because that is where most of the viruses come from.

Got two last week from aw-confirm@ebay

Looked like a real message through ebay from a member asking about a product sent. Checked it on My Ebay and there was no such message through them or no such member on ebay. I forwarded it to spoof@ebay then erased it.

Just remember, there is no free lunch.

You are right about that. It has just bumped my caution meter up a bit. It has also opened my eyes to other possibilities. I wonder what the dollar figures are for this kind of fraud? I will be more careful. Terry

Look out for "Second Chance" Offers, too

I've received two very official "second chance" offers after losing auctions. But again, if they are not in your ebay message folder, they are not legitimate. The funny thing is that in both five other people bid higher than me; they probably also got "second chance" offers accepting their highest bids.

                              Here's an alleged 1953 #13 for sale:

The scammers are adapting - this seller has a website link in the ebay ad, and the website then lists the car for $6,700 US.
