Other than sending it to someone who restores them, is there a way I can put back the original protective coating on the antenna myself, after repairing it?

It's similar to what they dip cutting tools in. The problem is that the cutting tool pots are all too small for an antenna and they probably don't use the right color. Setting up a dip tank yourself will be expensive. Bite the bullet and have someone do it who is already set up.- Top

I don't know if this will help, but I do know that at OEM Glass they dip it in a Substance called Prota Cote, or Prota Coat.
I wrote this down about a year ago for future reference and I haven't tried to get any yet.
Let me know if you have any luck either in finding it or applying it
