    INSTALLING CHROME TRIM

I HAVE MY 1958 BACK WITH A NEW PAINT JOB. I AM INSTALLING THE CHROME TRIM, SHOULD I APPLY A BEAD OF GASKET TO THE STUD BEFORE I PUT THE SPEED NUTS ON TO HELP IT SEAL. ANY INSTALLATION TRICKS WOULD BE APPRECIATED. RON

original speed nuts had an integral rubber-like washer that did the job of sealing. they are hard to come by. i take a dab of black caulking from 3-M(comes in strips and readily available at the local napa-type store), and press the caulk into the speed nut and the exterior side of the stud before tightening down the speed nut. works fine.mike
