Come on you guys! (and a hint)

I thought most of you guys were early to mid vintage baby boomers. Jeez, now you're making ME feel old. The movie was relaeased circa 1955, and remember, it was a so-called "B" movie of the era. It disappeared for a loooooong time, but showed up on AMC a few years ago, and I think it might be available on video now. The race was an open road race from the Canadian to the Mexican border, mostly down roads on the east side of the Cascades and Sierra Nevada. The Great Race was a race around the world. It was a mid-sixties "A" movie and Curtis was a name brand actor then.

Not that this helps, but this movie was what lit my fantasy to drive flat out on an open road which I finally did in The Silver State Classic Challenges in 1989 and 1990, and it's also probably the reason why I ordered my 327/340 SWC with a 3.08:1 axle.

I was going to admonish you all in the first challenge not to cheat i.e. looking it up on one of those CD ROM movie indexes, but at this point it looks like that's the only way anyone is going to come up with the answer. Oh, and pardon my semantic error. Tony Curtis was the protagonist. I meant to ask the character name of (both Curtis' charactier) his antagonist, or rival.

IF there is such a film....

I am not aware of it. The only Curtis' films made in the 50's that I am aware of, are, Trapeze, Sweet smell of Success, Houdini, James Dean Story. I think Houdini was the earliest, and Curtis was a superstar after that movie. I have a hard time believing a guy of that stature would make a "B" movie. BTW, the greatest movie, at least to my liking was "The Great Imposter". I have never laughed so hard in my life as I did watching that movie. Circa early 60's.

Well Lou, guess you and I are OFF the Trivia Team. We have just been Replaced by the Great Duke of Earl.
