    c2 dash pad removal

Can anyone help in finding documentation on best procedure to remove and replace the c2 dash pads. I checked the archive and was unsuccessful in finding a procedure. Can the pads be removed and replaced without pulling the entire dash assy?

    Thanks

    Bill,

They can indeed be pulled and replaced without removing the whole assembly. I believe there is a technical article on this either at one of the "other" web sites (ie: perhaps Corvette Forum or Vetteheads), or maybe even under technical articles at Zip Products' web site. Sorry I can't be more specific, but perhaps someone else will post with more info.

    Good luck!

      Howdy Bill,

To remove the pads with the dash in the car is one miserable job, but it can be done. Glove box needs to come out, so does the steering column, radio, console and instrument panel. It will also help to remove both seats. I forget how many clips are used (34?) to hold both pads in place, but plan on breaking several during removal. I would replace all of them with new. You may have trouble with some of the clips turning instead of opening up as they should, if so try using 2 small screwdrivers. Turn one left and the other right.

I promised myself long ago to never do another set of pads in the car. Removing the dash assembly is more work (and a little frightening) but the work is much easier and I think there is less chance of damaging something. Good luck! Bill

You are right Bill, at that point you are only a half a dozen quarter twenty bolts and 12 rivets from having the entire assembly out of the car and upside down on the dining room table.

Thanks for the help and advise. It does look easier to remove the whole dash assy and then replace the pads. The interior is brighy blue and having a good color match between pieces is important. The center section is in great shape, However, if needed it can be repainted to match the new pads.

          Thanks
