    1965 Rear Strut Mounting Bracket

Need to ID correct strut rod bracket for 1965 SB coupe 3/5/65 build date. Item that came installed on car is heavier duty, with rolled lower edge lip than replacement bracket. Bracket on car is stamped "AAC" on top mounting surface. Used replacement part is stamped "AAD 2765-1" in same area.
"AAC" unit locates inner ends of strut rods about 3/4" higher than AAD unit.
Photo in 1963 shop manual looks same as "AAC" unit with flared lower edge for reinforcement. Have no similar reference picture for 65 shop addendum.
I am assuming rolled lower edge "AAC" unit is 63-64 and straight lower edge "AAD" unit is 65-67.

Any comments or directions for definitve ID appreciated.

    Thx

    Mitch,

Sounds like you have a correct bracket on the car but the replacement is incorrect. Actually, sounds like a 68 and later bracket. The 63-67 bracket is shaped differently than 68 and later and locates the strut rods higher.

Re: 1965 Rear Strut Mounting Bracket

Does anyone have a picture of the 63-65 unit?
Did the original GM part have a stamped part number on it?
      thx

        Mitch,
Here are some measurements that I hope will help you. They are taken from my '65, March 3-4 car. The serial number on your car must be around 111,500.

Strut rod bracket is 1 3/8" tall and 3 5/8" wide in area below differential. The offset dimension between the differential mounting surface and the center line of the holes for the strut rods is approximately 1/2". This is the dimension that would control the height of the strut rods.

Since the bracket is on the car, I can't help with the stamped letters.

        Good luck,
        Gene

Here's a typical midyear strut rod bracket; the centerline of the two cam bolts was lowered about an inch relative to the bracket attaching surface on the diff in '68 to lower the rear roll center.

Mid-64, late 65 both AAC stamp

Just happen to have these loose, so can post a close-up pic if others are not familiar with this stamp or its location.

Re: Mid-64, late 65 both AAC stamp

              Thanks guys-
anyone have any idea why someone would have burned two holes in the original bracket - size of a dime, one each side, centered front to back and about halfway up the inner inclined top surface of the bracket?

not that it will fix what I have, just curious

(I will put it back on and shop for the right one..)

              thx for all the input
