Carpet Cuts for Seat Tracks: 1963

I hope to complete the carpet install in a July-1963 SWC. After reading the 63-64 JG I am a little confused. Do the rear brackets mount on top of the carpet with the front brackets mounting directly to the floor with just the area for the bracket cut out? The hinge portion of the carpet cut towards the exterior of the car and the carpet cut tab resting on the bracket.

    As Always,
    Thanks for all the help!

Okay, Ray, from one late '63 to another:

On mine (and I have the original carpet to confirm this), the front seat brackets sit on top of the carpet and bolt through the carpet, the floor, and into the reinforcement plate. The carpet is squashed flat under the front bracket. In the back, the carpet is cut CLOSE around the rear steel "loops" that receive the seat posts. The carpet covers the bolts that fasten these loop brackets to the floor, so just the loops are exposed. I have two long cuts that extend from the back edge to the front bracket. Starting at the edge, they angle out to the rear brackets, then run straight forward almost to the front bolt. The cut is even with the inside edge of the front bracket.

I know I took some pix of this last time I had the seats out, but I'll be darned if I can find them! I know this is confusing for you. Let me grab some supper, and then I will take a seat out and snap some more pix for you.

Had my supper and my Sopranos fix... Let's talk about late '63 carpeting!

I'm glad I did this because now I have it documented (again). AND, I also forgot that there is a cutout for the rear seat brackets!! NCRS!

This link shows the entire area with the seat pulled. Note those rear bracket cutouts and the long cuts. There's ~6" between the ends of the cuts:

This link shows the same view with the flap laid back - it basically lays in the trough. The long cuts stop midway along the front bracket indentations:

This is a closeup of the front outer mount; see the cut?:

The rear outer mount. There are TWO steel plates under the loop bracket. You can see that the cutout basically surrounds the larger (bottom) steel plate:

The rear inner mount; carpet just covers the bolts:

The front inner mount; note the squashed carpet and bolt hole:

If you need more detail, I can send the full-size images via email (won't fit on my web site!)

Good luck! Don't forget they only cut once!
