Re: Lower bell housing front shield
A couple of days ago I looked all in my JG and could not find it. In absence of anything definitive (or that I may have overlooked) I painted mine black as this is what I have seen on many Chevrolet applications.- Top

Re: Lower bell housing front shield
I believe you will find it to be engine orange, as it was on the engine when the engine was painted, at least in the 60's. Check the engine buildup in your assemblu manual. If it is not called out as an added part there, it was orange. If installed at St louis, it would be black. The assy manual knows.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Bill specifically on big blocks, what ....
..... should be the coverage of orange paint on this dust shield. Assuming that '65 BB's had almost the entire bellhousing painted, and that the shield was black before the orange spray was applied, would you expect a small area close to the rear seal to have been masked/shielded by the oilpan ?- Top

Certainly, bare or "lightly painted" areas are to be seen anywhere an item has a chance to "hide" from a spray gun pass that is not purposely aimed to get into "nooks and crannies"Bill Clupper #618- Top
