This is a scan of Floyd's business card, probably a couple hundred C-1, and 100 C-2s when I first found this junkyard in about 1970. Mike

Re: Old Corvette Junkyard
Yep, thats old Floyd Richardson. One of the more interesting characters you could ever meet. Had the one and only 64 409 Corvette ever built, and 53 #147. Interestingly #147 was at Carlisle two years ago at the 50 year aniversary display. I wonder if it is the same car.- Top

Re: Old Corvette Junkyard
I dont know about that. When Floyd sold everything, I understood that the person that bought it loaded it all up into several tractor trailer trucks and I never heard anything of it again. He had some interesting stuff. The frame to #147 was out back in the field. He had a room full of FI units in his house. He had a car carrier made out of a 56 Corvette front with a ramp back. Part of the 53 body in the newer building along with a Barris type custom. And the 64-409 in the front yard. I know that 409 was real, cause the 409 emblems were right there on the fenders, and who am I to question Floyd.- Top

Re: Old Corvette Junkyard
Terry in Spartanburg has/had the "Dixie Too" junqueyard. Should still be there just off the I-26 headed to Ashville just outside Spartanburg. Lot's of Corvette stuff including numerous Mid-year hulls and lots of C3 stuff. Several semi trailer's full of parts. Terry was always proud of his junque but there certainly were some nuggets in the boneyard. This junqueyard is/was an operating late model salvage yard with the junque Corvettes scattered about! Terry had several projects he has never finished.
David Mullikan of Mullikan's Corvette Parts in Piedmont still has a bunch of junque however his father "really" had/has a lot of old Corvette stuff at the Cemetary he owns. I am sure it is all still there as everytime I see David I ask if Dad still has all the junque and he always says yes. Dad usually built at least 1 car a year for a long time.
There is also over 85 Corvettes in and around the chicken coupes in Cleveland Tennessee. Sammy still has them all along with LOTS of parts. Probably the largest collection of unrestored old Corvettes owned by one person in the country with 1,000's of parts to go along with this stash. He has owned some these cars since he was 16 years old. There is at least one Corvette for every year from 53-67. There are multiples of many year models in this pile of junque.
Another pile of Corvette cars and junque is in the woods around Lynchburg Tennessee slowly sippin wiskey and rotting away.
Of course there is always the 30-40, mostly C1 Corvettes in the yard at a gentleman's house around Huntsville Alabama that are/were complete and are rotting into the ground. Every one of them drove in years ago and most have trees growing through them now. Fortunately the 53 is under the carport. No, they are not for sale. He owns them and you don't!!!!
Then there are the 3 Mid-Years bodies that Don Newton buried behind his old gas station in Louisville on Shelbyville Pike when he needed fill for a big hole behind the building. Of course John McGee's back porch has 2 69's and 1 68 Corvette bodies used for re-bar since that's all he had to fill that hole and hold the cement together for the porch a the back of his home. Of course that does not touch the surface of all the Corvette junque still in the weeds of John's backyard! Got a backhoe? Want to be a Corvette archeologist?
There is also another nice stash of Corvette parts and cars in garages in Muscle Shoals Alabama. Every see a 55 gallon drum stacked full of REAL Mid-year teak wood steering wheels? He has 2 drums full. That's just the surface of the new/used/NOS parts sitting in that location. And lets not forget about all the cars in his garages.
You can also go down to Georgia just north of Rome Georgia and look at all the stuff Richies dad has sitting behind the his shop. A lot of it is getting rough and picked over but it's still there!!!!
There continues to be a lot more of this stuff sitting around than you may think there is. Sooner or later it ALL will be for sale as the owner's will either get tired of all this junque sitting or they will die and there relatives will wasnt rid of this junque. I am sure there are lot's more stories that can be added to this thread.
Just remember, the above is NOT a story. These cars and parts are real and sitting outside/inside as we speak!!!!!!- Top
