    C3 1968 Metal Fan Shroud

    Any body know what 1968 came with a Metal Fan Shroud. 327/350, 327/300, 427/390 or what? I have an early 327/350 and a late 427/390 vettes. When I purchased the 327/350 the seller did not have a shroud on it but gave it to me. The 327/350 has power brakes, power steering, AC, power windows, and telescoping wheel. Any help is appreciated. If it does go to the 327/350 I need the brackets that mount it to the chassis.

    Metal = manual trans and no AC;
    Also may be authentic for very early 427 according to AIM.

      My original owner 68 327/350 has metal shroud. The original radiator was aluminum and I have no air conditioning, no power steering, or power brakes. Do have telescopic steering wheel though. With air I think your 68 would be like my 70 with air, much larger copper/brass radiator and big plastic type shroud.

        Your 350 hp car should have a copper radiator with a fiberglass shroud. Some very early cars have been observed with a metal shroud, but this is rare. Basically 300 and 350 hp engines with 4 speed transmissions but without AC used an aluminum radiator with a metal shroud. When you added AC and/or automatic transmission the radiator was copper the shroud was fiberglass.

        All big blocks, with the exception of the L/88 had copper/fiberglass combinations.

          Was it both 68 and 69 350 HP's that had the big Copper radiator?

            Jay,
            I agree with Geoffrey, because my 327/350 1968 coupe is equipped exactly as yours and I do NOT have ametal shroud. I purchased the car in 1972 from the original owner so I know it was not tampered with.

              Geoffrey, both 68 and 69 350's with A/C had the copper radiator. The manual transmission w/o A/C had aluminum

                Dickie--
                Can't totally agree with the last statement. Mid-year build 69, 350/350 no air, 40k mile car in hands of original owner with all paperwork, etc. has copper radiator, proper fan shroud, etc., etc., etc.

                  Although I can't swear on the originality of my fan shroud, it is metal by the way, I have observed several 68 327 with a/c having the metal fan shroud via cruising the for sale sections from various internet sources. My car is a 67 Nov build date. What I do know is the engine, pillar post tag and the frame have the same vin number that matches the trim tag date. One other thing that puzzles me about my car is that the engine is a 327/350hp ac equipped car that has the HT stamp instead of the HP. It also has a 4-speed, ps and pb to go along with ac.

                    Oh well Reverend, never say always. There are always exceptions to the rule I guess. Please forward me the VIN and other info for use in the next revision of the 1968-69 TIM & JG
