I need a starter for a 67 390hp car. This one is on ebay 8043010529. Does it look like a restamp or original?

Ken,
Looks good to me, here's my SB starter and the stamping look the same. Looks the last few numbers on both are some what out of line which makes sense.

Re: 67 390 hp starter on ebay
Kevin = Take a look at another starter on eBay ( 8043032389), also listed by Chicago Corvette (aka mztrcarb). What strikes me is how smooth the casing is around the stamped area, compared to the rest of the casing. Leaves me uncertain about its originality. I've also tracked several other 233 starters offered by the same guy and noticed they ended with zero bids.
Your starter is what I'd expect to see. Ken's looks OK, but I'd want to see it in person. I just have an aversion to getting any high end item from eBay, unless I can see it or know the seller. JMHO....Dick #1104- Top

Ken:
It priced right, and looked correct, I just had two restored by John Pirkle for $150.00 and its perfect, you may find others to restore it for less.- Top

1107233 Starters on Ebay
Hmmm.
Ebay # 8037050026 - 1107233 starter, dated 2E2, off the car >10 yrs, missing solenoid. $295, 2/7 to 2/14 no bids, did not sell.
Ebay # 8038951684 - 1107233 starter, dated 1L9, off the car > 10 yrs, missing solenoid. $275 2/14 to 2/21 did not sell.
Ebay # 8043032389 - same starter as 8038951684, buy it now starting 2/19, $275.
I have a restamped 233 from Goat Hill that I paid $241 total for, date code 1 M 11. That starter was completely rebuilt and looked new. I'll have to shoot a pic of the P/N and date stamp to compare.
I would SO like to believe the Ebay starters are real, as $275 wouldn't be a bad price, even if they need restoration. And I've had good luck with Chicago Corvette in the past. Hmmmm..... Caveat emptor.- Top

Re: 67 390 hp starter on ebay
I am by no means an "expert" on starters, but this one looks pretty good. Also can see some of the telltale indicators that the case has not been turned down as is done in most restampsDick Whittington- Top

Re: 67 390 hp starter on ebay
Recreations...Repop's.... and of course licensed Reproduction.
A lot of us wait a very, very long time for the correct parts to emerge and sometimes pay dearly for them...then along comes the reproductions, they look and pass for the real thing.
It would be best for the sport, if they would all be stamped (R) for reproduction parts.- Top
