I can't find my *@#! notes this morning and forgot which water pump pulley was used on 1962 340 hp & 360 hp Corvettes! Somebody help quick! Please! I haven't had coffee yet! I'm sure that in 59 the 816 was used with the 328 on the balancer I'm also sure that hydraulic lifter 62's used the same combination. I'm sure that the balancer pulley on solid lifter 62's was a 987 but what was the water pump number? Could it have been 328? that would explain why I can't remember. Getting older faster more often would also explain it! HELP!

Dale - My library is pretty weak, but does 987 for the balancer pulley and 245 for the water pump pulley make any sense? Both are dual deep groves. Cheers, Dick- Top

Re: 1962 Solid lifter water pump pulley
Hi Dick: Thanks for the response. Are you sure the 987 is double groove? That would explain why I'm so mixed up this morning. If it is, then I'm sure the 987 is NOT correct for solid lifter 62's. The 328, a single deep groove must be the right one! I've had coffee and am beginning to calm down. In fact, It just came to me! That mickey-mouse dual fan belt shown in the AIM for solid lifter cars was never used in production although it was available over the counter. If it was installed on a car,a double groove water pump pulley would have to be used, which would have been the 245. The AIM does show the 987 as a double groove.
O.K. I've got it figgered out! 1962 solid lifter Corvettes used the same set up as the hydraulic engines; a 328 and an 816. This pulley combination is right for all Corvettes, 1958, after vin 4200 or so, through 1962!
The Goat Hill pulley catalog rose above my intellectual capability early this morning and I became confused, not a rare occurance.
Thanks for ringing the bell.

The information that I have shows that for 1962 there were two water pump pullies originally used. Late 1958 through "first design" 1962 models used pulley GM #3724816. "Second design" for 1962 was GM #3770245. As far as I know, these pullies were applicable to ALL 1962 Corvette engine water pump pulley applications. When the change from "first design" to "second design" took place, I couldn't tell you.
As far as the crankshaft pulley goes, I believe that 1962 with 340/360 hp engines used pulley GM #3766987. This is a double pulley of 6-3/4" OD. Later, this pulley was replaced by GM #3858533. 1962 Corvettes with the 250 and 300 hp engines used pulley GM #3756328In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1962 Solid lifter water pump pulley
Hi Joe:
1962 Corvettes were never produced with double groove pullies even though the AIM shows them as part of an idler assembly. You could buy this assembly over the counter for racing or reliability and it did indeed use the double groove pullies, 245 and 987. Again, Corvettes didn't get built at St. Louis with the idler assy.
Thanks for the input.

Re: 1962 Solid lifter water pump pulley
dale-----
The information which I provided is information which comes straight from GM parts information sources and NOT the AIM. Of course, sometimes this information can be incorrect, but, in this case, I don't think so.
GM parts information says that "first design" 1962 Corvettes(all engine options) used water pump pulley GM #3724816. "Second design" 1962 Corvettes used water pump pulley GM #3770245. This is a two groove pulley of 7-1/8" OD.
GM parts information further says that 1962 Corvettes with 340/360 hp engines used crankshaft pulley GM #3766987. GM # 3766987 IS a 2 groove pulley of, nominally, 6-3/4" OD.
Now, in my original post I didn't mention anything about idler pullies, but I do know what you're getting at in you response regarding idler pullies-----the GM #3770245 and GM #3766987 pullies are two groove pullies which, presumably, work in conjunction with an idler pulley.
As a matter of fact, GM parts information also specifies that idler pulley assembly GM #3825446 was used with 1962 Corvettes. Also, this part number is UNIQUELY applicable to 1962 340/360 hp Corvettes-----it has no other application with respect to Corvettes or any other Chevrolet passenger car.
Now, I suppose that it is possible that this idler pulley assembly was never actually installed on a PRODUCTION 1962 Corvette, even though GM parts information indicates that it was. But, what makes me wonder about all this is this fact: the GM #3825446 idler pulley assembly has been discontinued for many years. However, it is available in reproduction from Paragon under their part number PR-556 for a price of $125. If this part was NEVER INSTALLED on a PRODUCTION 1962 Corvette and was NEVER USED for any other application, I can't understand who'd be willing to pay Paragon $125 for one?In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
