    1954 Corvette 235 Engine

I have heard that there is a Neoprene rear main seal available as a replacement for the "rope" seal which is standard. I haven't been able to find one. Does anyone know where I might be able to get one? Also, is this a good way to go? I have heard both bad and good on this. What is the proper way to prepare and instal the rope seal so that it won't leak? The manual just says to push it into the groove and trim the excess off and says nothing about soaking it in oil first as some people have recommended. Thanks for any help you may be able to offer on this.

Manual is right but add a sealer at both end . They lasted for mannnnnnnnnnnnny years. I like them.Try Classic Chevy guy dealers and dont need soaking but a little grease

Thanks Roy. I'll try it. That sounds better than soaking them in oil.
