I'm restoring my 1963 corvette heater box and I'm not sure how I need to replace all the internal seals? Do I need to drill out all the rivets? Does anyone know a reputable company that restores these boxes? Any information will be appreciated.

Re: C2 Heater box restoration
Hi;
I did mine last year. I purchased the seal kit from Paragon and went from there, not disassembling the box itself but rather gluing in any seals which I could reach. It worked out fine. Having said this, I have seen rivet kits on the market for this purpose.
The instructions from Paragon are not particularly clear, so I wound up using what they had and facricating an additional seal from a sheet of foam.
Keep in mind that the case parts from the '63 are different than the other midyears.
Hope this helps... Joel- Top

Re: C2 Heater box restoration
Alex, there are two style heater boxes for 63. The change happened sometime in April of 63. The first style had a rather sloppy mechanism that attached to the cable and operated the internal baffles. This was a poor design and allowed too much warm/hot air into the interior of the car. The second design which was used till 1967 as I recall was much better and let less warm/hot air in. Whatever one you have, I would drill out the rivets, take it completely apart, media blast all the internal metal, clear coat the metal to avoid future surface rust, add the new seals and a new heater core. It's a bit time consuming but a straight forward repair. Dr. Rebuild has a complete kit that contains all the seals and rivets.
Email me and I'll send some photo's
