E-Bay Question

I like to get on E-Bay every now & then to look at vettes and see what the prices are for some of the mid years. I was looking on E-Bay earlier and what is the deal with some of these listings for mid year corvettes with buy it now prices that are @5,000 & $6,000 & etc? The listings say please e-mail before you bid. I'm ignorant, what's the catch?

They are all scams!!!! 2 days ago I recieved e mails from many people wanting to buy a Camaro & 67 vette. Needless to say I did not have anything to sell.
Iknew nothing about it.
E bay contacted me & to make a long story short I had to change all passwords.
This happens every day . These crooks are disgusting. They will try to talk you into sending them $ . Buyer will recieve nothing. Becareful, Don

They will copy other listings and post the car as their own. They get your e-mail info and possibly send spyware to you when you contact them. They are very clever and usually catch those that can't resist that "great" deal. If it's too good to be true... it is.

I hope you didn't click a link included with the eBay email telling you that you need to change your passwords.

This could have been ANOTHER scam.

If you need to change anything about your eBay profile, make sure you ONLY go in off the eBay home page. Never click in from a link coming with an email.

Very true, I have been approached on that same scam and sent it to ebay. It was a scam all the way. Only work directly through the ebay site. Never go to it from a letter that supposedly is from ebay. Terry

All they want is your email address and your email password. Once they have that they have everything. They can then read your email, send a "forgot my password" to any online account you have. Had to change all my passwords one time because I answered one of these ebay scams.

There's some bad guys out there.

I am still shocked at how many folks still think that you can purchase a car off of e-bay from one of these scams.

I just had a neighbor tell me he purchased a car on eBay for only 6000.00 can I view the auction pictures, I was able to stop him from sending the deposit, But what else should he be doing,He did tell them what bank he deals with,but he did not give his account numbers. He did give them his home address for the shipping. I told him to change his eBay password and cancel the credit card he has on file with eBay. I also suggested he go speak to the bank in person and explain what happened and to block any electronic money transfers.
Beside taking his deposit check does anybody understand what else they do with this scam.

It depends on what they can get from him. An eBay password allows them to set up more scam auctions. They may access your PayPal account and buy something with your account along with the scam of getting people to send deposits on expensive cars.

Only a fool would by a $40,000 car for $5000, or think he could anyway.

Awhile back I began getting a lot of spam on my old email account. The only place I could trace it to was ebay. The prices, the security issues and the spam caused me to close my paypal and ebay accounts. I'll buy my parts from Paragon or such--or from "Driveline" if I ever get it. I lived many years without ebay.

If you right click on the link in the email you will see that it is not to a htpps site. the s stands for secure and make sure it is there or it is probably a bogus site.

The only thing I can't fathom is why E-bay turns a blind eye, allowing the posts to continue to run and re-run.

Article in Business Week a couple of months ago indicated that 18,000 auctions are posted every day, and there are something on the order of 60 million eBay user accounts; would take an army to screen/validate that kind of volume
