I have a '69 Roadster w. the 350/350, 4spd, & factory sidepipes. While idling, I noticed that the exhaust tips appear to be spitting a small amount of wet, black, "carbon looking" substance on the ground. There is no visible "smoke", but it leaves two faint circles on the ground wherever she sits idling. Anyone familiar with this problem? Is it bad news? If so how bad? What are my options for resolving this issue? Any long term effects if I just leave it alone? She's running great and I hate to fix something that already runs fine. Thanx for your time and help in reading and responding to my post!

Re: '69 CARBON SPITTER
Tommy,
If you only see this when first running a cold engine, I would consider it normal. It's probably condensation that builds in the exhaust when cooling and when mixed with the black coating inside the muffler/pipe, it will appear as a black liquid when it hits the ground.
If, however, this continues well after the engine and exhause has reached normal operating temp, there may be other internal engine leaks, but I doubt it.- Top
