I'm getting close to needing to by the exhaust for my restoration.. I would like to put an aluminized exhaust but don't want to suffer too bad in terms of point deduction. Anyone have any ideas on a good exhaust that will meet the challenge of judging within reasonable cost?

Re: just as original steel exhaust
At one time, Allen's would form the exhaust out of carbon steel if requested. Since the patterns are equal, it dosen't matter which material you choose as long as it is available. Also, you could request pipes be joined with the mufflers as provided on the assembly line although extra shipping costs are involved.

Re: just as original steel exhaust
I talked to Allen's today. They said that they don't have a source for plain, carbon steel, since everyone wants their products to last, no one uses it any more. They suggested 409 stainless, which will get the brown color of carbon steel and is magnetic. I'd still rather find plain steel, rather than pay extra for a material I don't want anyway. I'll make some more calls and see what I can find. I once ordered the aluminized and removed the coating, but it was quite a bit of work, and I'd rather not do it again.- Top
