    Wiper Door - 69 Convertible

I am unable to get my wiper door to close. I have changed out the wiper door vacuum switch, wipe door actuator, wiper door vacuum actuator, all vacuum hoses, override switch and wiper solenoid and still I'm not able to get the wiper door to close when it is suppose to. The door will open when the engine is running but will not close when I turn the wipers off.

Based on the documentation I have, it shows that the wiper door vacuum switch (located under the wiper door on the passenger side) should have the white and red hoses attached to it. Does the third hose (top of switch) attach to anything or should it be left unattached? Could this be my problem?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    EJ

You may have accidentally reversed the headlamp vacuum valve and/or filter causing the air pressure to the wiper door to not bleed down.

      Scott,

When you say headlamp vacuum valve, do you mean the override switch under the dash?

No. After I sent the response I realized I should have been more specific. The filter is the white plastic cone shaped device. If you blow in one side it is not restricted but if you blow into the opposite side it is less so. The vacuum valve is the metal three port pewter colored device. You can blow in one side but not the other. Refer to your vacuum line layout to see which lines go where. My '70 and manuals are not with me here.

Thanks, I will give that a try. Do you know if the top hose of the vacuum switch (located under the wiper door on the passeger side) should be connected to anything? My diagrams do not show that it is attached to anything.

No. It stays open. When I first saw that on mine I wondered what it went to also and why it was 'cut'. I think it's to assist the diaphragm in the switch. The switch "tells" the wiper door to close when the wiper arm hits the top of the plunger on the switch. That may also be the problem. The arm is not fully depressing the switch. Or you have the two hoses to the switch reversed.

              The wiper door safety switch...

has three nipples on it and there should be color code 'dots' next to the nipples to indicate their function. One connects to the wiper door actuator relay (bottom nipple if memory serves). The second (middle nipple if memory serves) connects to the over-ride switch below the steering column. The third is the vent hose (upper most nipple) that allows the switch to exhaust vac and its hose simply routes through a grommet in the cowl into the engine compartment (protection against rain, Etc.) where it terminates with a blind cut...

                Eric,

Did you get this resolved? If not I could send you some pictures of my 1969 vacuum system;if you like. I also have a color coded diagram that I could scan and send.
