    '69 435hp carb ink stamp

Please see the attached photo and excuse the quality/clarity.

This intake setup was removed from my 1-owner '69 427/435 sometime in 1973 and replaced with a 4 BBL setup for racing. These carbs were never rebuilt and were in storage until I purchased the car a few years ago. My question regards the ink stamp on the front carburetor. It appears to read "6 D" or "5 D". The other carbs, front, rear and spare center carb do not have any ink stamps that I've found yet. Has anyone seen this kind of marking and what might it represent?

    Thanks, Kent #6201

Very common type marking on Holley carbs. I feel very confident that it's some sort of inspection mark. However, I don't know just what it denotes.

I agree with Joe, it's some kind of Holley inspection mark. The service replacement 3124 Holley on my '65 398 has a rubber stamped '78' on the LH side of the air horn that more than one judge has viewed, 'appreciated' and simply made notes on. There is no reference to these marks in the current NCRS Judging Guide books and they might relate only to carbs that flowed through service channels...

        Unique linkage. Mechanical conversion?

Thanks Joe and Jack. These are the original carburetors (all dated 941) per the original owner (see initial posted image). Only the front carb is stamped.

BTW Jack, since we try to improve our JG, here is another stamp for the books. Our TIM & JG indicates there should, I believe, be a CJ stamp on the AIR part (?) and that DC is seen on L88s. This is the original AIR pump assembly removed from my 435 HP Corvette in 1973 and stored by the original owner. It is clearly stamped DC.

Re: '69 435hp carb ink stamp

I have a set of 3X2's that came with my 69 400HP Coupe. They have a lot of black stampings. The front and rear fuel bowels are stamped 50650 and the center appears to be stamped 57350S. The vacuum actuators for the front and aft carburators are stamped with a triangular pattern of numbers:

            8150 14

            8171

...Now that I've listed these numbers, I'd like to change the subject a little bit. I'd like to have these carbs restored by Holley. However, they said that they cannot duplicate the black ink letter stampings. What to do? When I removed these carbs in about 1985, they worked fine. I am interested in re-installing them, but of course I'd like to have them restored to make sure they work and of course look good. Any advice as to how to restore them and keep the black ink stampings?
