63 conv lower windshield moulding

Is it possible for the moulding to be installed without clips? I have a handy-dandy clip release tool that appears to traverse the entire moulding without encountering a clip. I insert the tool between the windshield rubber and the moulding until it touches the lower lip of the moulding. In this position I can drag it the entire length of the moulding without hooking a clip; yet the moulding is firmly in place. It seems like the moulding is anchored at or below the lower lip. A friend that has removed numerous mid-year mouldings gave it a go and came up empty also. Any ideas?

i'd guess ole Bubba installed the stainless trim with RTV or a similar silicone product. if so, you've got a job on your hands. hope it aint so. good luck, mike

It may be hard to feel the 63 clips. They used a different clip which is lower in the channel. If you look at the edge of the trim strip, you will see that it is deeper to the retainer than the later years. I dont remember any real problems removing them though.
