Intake question

Would it theoreticaly be possible to mount an oval port intake manifold on a big block engine with large square port heads? I know this is not optimal at all, but would it be possible?

Yes it is, however the opposite would be difficult.

It's possible to use a large square port intake manifold with oval port heads but I don't think you can use the oval port intake with large square port heads.

I once looked at a 68 SS 396 ( 375hp ) Chevelle that was reported to be an
original SHP car. It did have the correct aluminum rectangular port intake
and Holley carb. At the time, I did not know that 4-bolt main blocks had the
different hole configuration above the oil filter boss area, so I made a
condition of sale the removal of one valve cover. Guess what I found?
Oval port heads...... Seems it was a low horse 396 after all. It did run,
but not very well under power. Seller claimed it needed to be tuned-up.

Oh yes, it did have the "factory" 396 - 375HP air cleaner sticker though.....

I've bought big blocks over the years that had em done in both directions.....oval on rec. and rec on oval. It'll work either way.
