Clutch Cross Shaft Felt Seal

I am installing the clutch cross shaft hardware and have a question about the felt seals. Does the felt ride outside the cross shaft or is it supposed to fit inside the shaft? I can't find an illustration that clearly shows the assembly.

i believe it is to stop dust intrusion , outside . an assembly manual or parts will show correct . 69 was my application , i have read that some years used rubber but only on the block side , i only suspect you are talking about the outboard side "fender " of the cross shaft .

It sits outside of the shaft, between the end of the shaft and the frame bracket; keeps birds and small children out of the shaft

Look at the Corvette Parts Catalog in GR0.000, picture called 1958-62 Corvette Clutch Linkage, view "A". It appears to be inside the shaft.

Checked mine and one appears that way while the other is on the swivel nut. Been apart so many times I'm not sure anymore.

Don't know where all the pro's are tonight? Gee, maybe football? You should get the correct ans in awhile.
