    56 Seat Belt Reinforcements

    Hello to all,
Can someone enlighten me as to what finish the inner and outer under car seat belt reinforcements have on a '56? Were they plated or painted black?

    Thanks,

Steve... My First Question Would Be...

...Were they there in 1956? I believe seat belts were not standard equipment until 1958. In any case,if you had any underbody brackets, my guess is that they would be dip painted black... That's my best guess...

      Dennis,

Thanks and yes, they were there but they were not used from the fctory as the assembly manual shows a piece of tape over the inboard hole for the seat belt bolt. The inside bracket is even there on the outboard side.

Steve, I believe that outside bracket is on all of them. If your car has or had a power top that bracket is used as the bottom mount for the top piston.

My 56 was a VERY, VERY late (last week) production car. It originally had the power top (long gone when I bought it in 73) and all brackets were still in place, including the seat belt attachment brackets (but no seat belts). The weldnut reinforcements under the floor pan are riveted onto the fiberglass.
In 74, I went to my local Chevy parts dept and bought a set of red 63 seat belts-complete. That was the earliest belts that were still available at that time.
