    1961 Fuel Pump

I am having a hard time keeping the fuel rod from sliding back when I try to re-install the pump. Is TDC the best position or is there another position that would give more clearance to allow more time to install before the rod slides down. Gary

You can use grease and coat the rod and insert it to give resistance to rod from sliding. Not familiar with you block, but on later blocks there is a short bolt at front of the engine that can be removed. The removed bolt is short for a reason, if was much longer it would interfer with the movement of the fuel rod. To install the pump use longer bolt to hold the fuel rod up. When finished installing the pump, remove the longer bolt and install the short one.

There are two 3/8"-16 tapped holes in bosses on the front of the block, right around the corner from the fuel pump; the upper of the two is the hole you want - it should have a 1/2"-long bolt in it with thread sealer on it.
