That would be nice. I never mention my mouse as no one seems interested in SBs.

About every other day, I get a message thrown into my SpamBlocker delete box which advertises fake Rolex watches. I went to the real Rolex web site to see it they had a "Contact Us" button to hit, because I was going to email that message to them for their information.

When I got to their website, there is absolutely nowhere or no way to contact them at Rolex....go figure.

Fake Rolexes have been around since long before e-Bay. Back in 1987 we used to have a guy come in to our office with bags full of them. He never tried to pass them off as real; just something to fool people that didn't know the difference. They were easily distinguishable by their quartz movement which produced a different action of the second hand. As it was then and is now, caveat emptor.

It seems to me that e-bay's position on this (we don't know nothin') is a little shakey. If this crap was being sold at a flea market, I bet the operator of the place wouldn't get off scott-free.

Ebay is just bringing the buyer and seller together. They are not certifying anything! Tiffany's complaint should be against the seller, not Ebay. Do you sue the newspaper when an ad appears in the classifieds for fakes?

Keep in mind that, if this law suit goes through, Ebay will just pass on the cost of this to us, the users.

Another frivilous lawsuit...against someone (or some thing) with deep pockets.

Re: ebay Fakes Tiffany Lawsuit update

That's a good point. The thing I was thinking about is that this is not an isolated event. Many people on this forum alone, including me, have notified e-bay about scams. I bet during discovery you'd find thousands of those e-mails.

If a newspaper had the reputation of printing false ads because they were lax in their screening, that might be a different story. I think the issue is not that it happens, it is that e-bay is shirking a responsibility that comes with the territory. If you are a landlord and you know your tennant is selling crack out of the house, what do you do? It should not depend on how much rent they are paying.

                Anyway....back to corvettes!
