82 Seat Back

Hi All,

The drivers seat back will not swing forward on my 82. It seems like something is blocking it on the inboard side, the outboard hinge seems like it is free. ANY ideas how to fix this??? Or what it might be.

The 82's had a saftey device that was to activate in case of an accident and keep the seat back from coming forward. It is a whitish plastic plug like deal. Sometimes it drops down (age is a big factor)all by its self and locks the seat. A long thin knief blad will usualy work in pushing it back. I learned this the hard way when I took the seats out of my 82.

I am working on the interior of an 81 that had the same problem. I sprayed PB blaster, a liquid wrench type of an lubricant, in the area just below the pivot point of the hinge then used a thin screw driver and pushed it into a gap just below this pivot section to move the locking saftey device that Mike had mentioned. After a few times of hitting the device the oil must have gotten into the mechanics of the device and it has worked fine since. I hope this helps
