Hope some of you can help me on the NCRS forum. My 95 vette sat for about two months without cranking and won't run. I checked all the fuses and put a new battery in. Current symptons are the speedometer LCD display, gauges and interior lights won't illuminate when the key is turned on. The car will repeatedly crank and run for about 3-5 seconds and then dies. I have the service manuals for this car but can't find this particular problem in it. Any help in diagnosing this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. There are all sorts of possibilities here. However, one that fits your symptoms and is also a fairly common problem is an Opti-Spark distributor failure. Your 95 has the improved, vacuum-extracted ventilation Opti-Spark. However, the vacuum extraction system did not completely solve the moisture intrusion problems with the Opti-Spark. IF, and I stress IF, it is the Opti-Spark, replacement of the unit is the only cure.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

If it fires for 3-5 seconds and then shuts down, I would first look at the fuel pump operation. The pump activates when you turn the key on and then turns off until the starter engauges or the engine fires and the oil pressure get up. The lack of power on the gauge circuit may have a bearing on this, I dont remember and my manuals are at the shop. The theory could be tested by activating the fuel pump test pin on the data link connection.- Top
