C2 Steering detail question

On a 67 BB with PS, should the tie rod ends be painted black with the sleeves and clamps too? On the ps control unit, is the whole unit painted black including the cap at the end with the X on it? Also, that about the castle nuts and cotter pins - are they painted black as well? I know the judging manual states the steering rack was painted as a unit but it fails to mention the tie rod ends, castle nuts, and control unit cap.

Most of the parts you described were coated with a thin, black asphaltic coating as part of the assembly. The exceptions were the slotted nuts and cotter pins which attached the tie rod ends to the steering arms and the slotted nut that attached the pitman arm to the relay rod ball stud (or the power steering control valve). Those were installed at St. Louis and were not painted.

The power steering components were not part of the steeing linkage as received from Chevrolet-Buffalo (except for the power steering relay rod which was part of the assembly used for power steering applications). The control valve and the power steering cylinder were PAINTED black as received from their source, and were installed on the car at St. Louis.
