    Tuning a 1965 Fuelie

Well I bought my dreamcar and now I need to get her running better. I have a 65 Fuelie and I was hoping that someone could point me to information on design, tuning, maintenance and rebuilding of the fuel injection system.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Procure a 1963 Corvette Shop Manual and '65 Supplement.

You will also find a 1965 Assembly Instruction Manual very useful.

Find a KNOWN FI builder and have

he/she go thru the unit. Send the distributor out to a KNOWN rebuilder and have the bushings replaced (if needed) and recurve it.

Before you go tearing into the fuel injection unit

I'd make sure all the basic tune up specs were in line if you're having a driveability problem.

If you're not familiar with the units, be advised many of them got replaced in the old days with a carb because the points were burnt or plug wires bad, plugs bad, etc.

What kind of problem are you trying to fix?

PS. I recommend you contact Jerry Bramlett

who is a member of this forum if you suspect you have FI issues. He's honest, good and reliable and not expensive. I don't think anybody here will dispute this.

          John DeGregorey is another.

Just don't go blaming the injection unit before the tune-up stuff is up to spec.

Re: Before you go tearing into the fuel injection

The car idles rough and I am getting black smoke at start up, in general the car seems to be running rich... Replaced cap, wires, points, condenser etc. I was thinking the maybe I should look at installing an HEI for drivability but I really do not want to change the originality.

            any suggestions?

Stephen--they ran great when they were new and tuned up--they still do--you DO NOT need HEI.
