A friend of mine with a newly acquired 69 427/390HP says his shifter in 2nd and 4th gear hits the rear of the opening of the console. The car has the original shifter. I said it could be he has the wrong linkage or it is out of adjustment/worn out. His tranny is not the factory installed but is a ct coded tranny. We are told that a ct is coded for Chevrolet Transmission indicating a warranty replacement? Could the console be slightly too forward? Any suggestions appreciated. Dick Gutman

Re: 69 shifter hitting rear of shifter console ope
The shift linkage can only be adjusted by inserting a flat steel tool in the adjustment slot and then adjusting the arms. If they are worn correct the problem. The center consol can be moved to the rear to correct the problem. The dash bottom has about one inch of adjustment front to rear.
