Vaccum attachment 68 wiper/headlight overide sw.

Hi again. Anyone know if 68 used those little rubber thingy's to attach the vaccum hose at 90 degree angles to the wiper/headlight door overide switches? The assembly manual shows the little plugins going straight on the connector but others that I have seen have a right angle attachment to allow for the close quarters of the attachment. Observations would be appreciated. My May built car either did not have them or was missing them??? Opinions appreciated. Thanks, Terry

Terry, my mid March built '68 uses the straight tubes (no 90 degree assist); my May, July, and August built '68's are the same. An interesting note: my Sept. built '68 (#164) has the overide mounted on the far right hand section of the drivers lower dash (not in the center like every other '68-'72 I have seen). I am not sure if this is a factory set up, but I can find no evidence of the switch to have ever been mounted in the traditional center location. G.

      George,
Early (and don't ask me to define that term, but certainly #164 qualifies) 1968s did have the over ride switches to the right of the steering column. They also had the order of the vacuum and electrical switches different than the later 1968s. I think some or all of those iterations are included in the Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide.
Years ago there was a 1968 interior survey of 1968s that covered this area, among many other interior features.
Does your #164 have the thin walled vacuum hoses in the engine compartment?

Terry, thank you for this information. I did know about the thin walled vacuum lines, so i just went out and compared each cars. The 164 car lines are easy to collapse between my finger and thumb, and the later cars are much stiffer. Are the colors used for identifying routing the same throughout the '68 run? g.

          68 vacuum colors

          George,
I don't know that they differed, but then we don't see too many early 1968s in judging, so I don't know for sure. Perhaps someone else here will know.

Are you saying the rubber hoses go straight on to the overide valves without going into a rubber block of some sort. Hmmm.

As for the switches all the way over on the right hand side. I think I took apart a 68 dash that was set up that way and I think I still have some of those pieces. I also think that the first and second design operators manuals either have pictures of it that way or talk about it in different positions. I can't remember thought very clearly. My May built car had them under the steering column. I am still wondering about the picture in the assembly manual??? Shows some type of rubber block. I have never found a rubber block in that position though???

Lets get together on those parts. What do you want to work on first?
            Thanks for the responce. Terry

I know where there is one with the switches on the right and the rubber block. I'll see if I can post a picture later. Don't expect much, I'm not going to take it apart but I will stick the camera under the dash and click.

Is it a 68 corvette or later C3? Thanks, Terry You can either post a picture or send me one at tfringo@aol.com

That will be a tough picture to take unless you have a very small camera. Hmmm. I am just wondering about this because I personally have not run across those things on the cars/parts I have taken apart. I have mainly worked on 68's though. But the assembly manual shows the hoses running into a rubber block which then plugs into each vaccum switch. I am just not certain they are correct for 68. Sorry, I just don't trust everything I see in the assembly manual. Just wondering. Terry
