Does anyone know the white 1957 air box car

    lot# 1282.1 for sale at Barrett-Jackson.

I have a friend at the auction who is interested in buying it. He is not an experienced Corvette guy and needs some guidance. It would get a good home if it is real.

Was this one of the 57's sold at Bloomington 2 summers ago?

    Thanks for any help.

Joe; This looks like the same one that was in Bloomington. Larry Geric from Fortwayne In. had it in there museum for a few years. I can't tell you where he bought it but he is probably at the auction. If your friend could track him down he would tell you the history. This could also be the car that is on page 159 in Noland Adams book. john

John..your point about the car with the conv. top and small hubcaps in Nolands book is interesting.

The airbox car pictured in the B-J listing...has a white upper instrument panel..that looks odd to me!

Yea I didn't catch the dash. I'm pretty sure the one Larry had was red on the top of the dash. If your friend would talk to any one from Pro team or any of the other Corvette dealers they could point out Larry to your friend. john

I have been informed by a previous owner this car was in fact born as a real air box car.

            Thanks for the help!

The name on the awards is Larry Gehrig (sp?)

and that triggered a memory - I think - about a web site with Larry and another feloow sharing a spot with their two museums. If my spotty memory serves, this would by the car build/assemlbed by Ray Mascerella (I KNOW that spelling is butchered - sorry) of Florida. Ray and Dave Bartush did a number of articles.

                Loren..You are correct!

I was sent pictures of the car pre-restoration..sporting some of the original important pieces including the airbox. The owner of that time frame can be contacted.

Am told the car was sold in Hawaii..in 1958.

It would be very interesting if it is actually the convertible top car on page 159 of Nolands big book.

Bells are ringing. At the Kruse auction in Alburn In. about 5 years ago the car from Florida was there and owned by Ray M. from Florida. At that time the exhaust was coming out right in front of the rear wheels. I sat right beside Larry Geric as he was bidding on this car also and it did not meet reserve any way he did't get it. So there is only 1 rag top air box car. Then one of these cars is fonney. Will the real car PLEASE stand up. john

John..my guess is..it is the same car you are referring to...

I don't know ..that there was only one air box car with a convertible top..there was also at least one air box delivered with dual quads.

The funny thing is that the factory team already determined that the air box was not the best set up..and stopped using them long before..the production air box cars were made in June/July/August.
