Could you advise me if the metal structure of the seats,came painted or unpainted from the factory.

I found the frame on my seats painted black, I think gloss black but too rusty to tell. Springs were bare, as I remember.

Just working on some 68s and they are a low gradw gloss black including the springs. 67 could be different.

Here is an original untouched 67 seat bottom. The backs were the same.


I used gloss black Rustoleum to repaint the frames and new springs. Recovering the bottoms with new foam was a really tough job in the winter. Best done in the summer when you can lay the seat covers out in the sun to warm them up.

I believe that the assembled seat frames were dipped in vats of highly thinned gloss black paint.
