    History on My Car....Help?

Hi everyone, especially y'all ol' timers here. It's been a while, eh?

Anyway, there have been a number of plastique fantistique's in our driveway since I was on here last, but the most recent is a '78 (keep the year in memory for future reference) we picked up so cheap we did it just for the purpose of resale. Of course it needed a little TLC, so that's what I set out to do.

The previous owner kept the car in decent condition as a daily driver, and the carpet was in good shape except for fading since the car stayed outside. Since we're reselling the car, I decided to just dye the carpet instead of replacing it.

OK. I'll cut to the chase. I removed the rear compartment doors and took off the frame work to remove the carpet to spray it. What I found on the door on the driver's side just blew me away. It's a page out of a newspaper or magazine article that's titled "How Militant Lesbians Worry The Woman's Movement". My first thought is that it's a plant by a previous owner, and that could possibly be the case still. However, what really messes me up is that the date of the article is 9/18/1977. I haven't checked the build date of the car yet, but the fact it's a '78 and the article is dated '77 is just freakin' odd. Any input?

Please e-mail me at wallen.anvilintl.com or call me at 281-235-6211.

    Cheers!
    W

I found a second page. There was one under the first page. It has the same date, and has an article titled "Detroiit is a tough city....." and also has an ad from a jewlery store called "Meyer", that claims to be Michigan's largest jewlers.

Again, your input would be appreciated.

There were 3186 1978 Corvettes built in Sept. 1977 so if it is an early VIN, it is possible. The paper would have most likely been old if put there by an owner, unless someone in the plant stuffed it under there real quick to either not get caught with it at work or to play a trick on someone.

What would a Detroit paper be doing in a car that was not produced in Detroit?

I'm trying to figure out where "on the door" is in Wendell's description. Under the carpet? Under the bottom side of the door? Laying on the door on top of the carpet, and just happened to be in the car?

I suspect that if sandwiched bewteen something, the subcontractor who made the doors for GM was in the Detroit area.
